This is sort of an update to two posts, the one about Manchester, and the one about Hampton. Rumors have absolutely been swirling about these for weeks, and now Rolling Stone is reporting that Phish will be headlining the first two nights of Bonnaroo, something that was only thought to be able to happen in dreams and fairy tales. Welcome back boys, and Welcome to America.

I thought this was appropriate for the end of my college days.

Welcome to America!- Texas Stadium

Posted in Welcome to America! with tags , , , , , on December 18, 2008 by adamburris

Less than 24 hours after graduating I will be attending the final home game ever at Texas Stadium, home of the legendary Dallas Cowboys for the last 37 years. My parents/grandparents have had the tickets the entire time, I am forever indebted to them for allowing me to use our family tickets for the last hurrah. I have attended somewhere around 100 games there in my life, including preseason and postseason, but I don’t think any of them will ever come close to matching the raw emotion that will be felt by the nation of Cowboys fans like there will be on Saturday. Though I was there for many of the great games, like this one and the TO game, I will never forget this upcoming Saturday night at the rodeo known as Texas Stadium. God, Tom Landry and the rest of the ‘boys will be watching through the hole in the roof.

Welcome to America! -Overland Park, KS

I just wanted to throw a shout-out to the OP, seeing as how i will be moving there in January to accept an internship for the semester after i graduate here this week (tomorrow night) woop woop. The fancy schmancy KC suburb will serve as my training ground as a transition into more of an adulthood-type setting. Though I still plan on attending graduate school, I will no longer have the luxury of being surrounded by people I know (for the second time) or people that understand me. I am excited nonetheless. I have been yearning to get out of school for some time now (though I recognize that I will probably look back upon these times as the best of my life, but I am just no longer interested or happy with the Columbia, MO college life. So if you wanna find me, I’ll be in the OP, working on some reporting and editing and design and photography and movin’ to phase 3.

Gotta love America, where people try to surf on their trucks.

Welcome to America!- Bates City, MO

I had to talk about Bates City, MO because I recently went through the town of 200 searching for the barbecue that I had eaten years ago on a trip to Kansas. This trip I was heading to KC for the Big 12 championship game, so I took a friend to this barbecue joint called Bates City Barbecue. It was tasty and delicious and exactly what I remembered. The sauce, the beef, the potato salad-everything about it was fantastic. I highly recommend the joint thats just about a half hour or so east of KC, right next to Odessa, MO.

Welcome to America-Crime reporting

For my capstone project, I teamed with another member of the J-school to try to shape/reform an aspect of the Missourian. We decided we wanted to revamp the way the Missourian did crime coverage because we thought it was irresponsible the way it was being done. Anyway, we created a Web site to explain our arguments and show exactly where we wanted the coverage to go.

Welcome to America-Current TV

This is a shameless plug to our wiki site that we created in class…it is all about Current TV. I think it is a great example of the power of wikis and I think it shows where citizen journalism is, where it is going and what Current TV can be used for in all types of things.

New Era

So I have been highlighting different towns and cities across America that I have visited, and I will continue to do so. I have also highlighted a few journalism articles I thought pertinent. But I am deciding to expand this blog. Welcome to America! is going to have articles and anecdotes that show that greatness of our country. I got this idea after reading about a man being trampled to death by shoppers at a Wal-Mart, Plaxico Burress and this.
